At least 7 of us from Sheboygan went to Washington DC for the Sept 24th 2005 anti-war rally, march, and concert. We found the crowds very impressive and the individual commentary (signage and conversations) to be very to the point. It looks like the mass media didn't give it much coverage, and their crowd estimates were way under what we saw ourselves and heard from others in DC. The pictures below are a quick overview of what one could see during the march that lasted over three hours covering the full width of the street including a first in a long time chance for a demonstration to be allowed to pass in front of the White House. Well.... separated from the iron grate wall by not one but two widths of crowd control gates. One of the highlights of the march itself was a light rope carried almost the length of the march, with a picture and name every two foot of US military people killed in Iraq. On Monday we understand three hundred people will take the rope and pictures, encircle the White House, climb over the barricades to get to the heavy iron fence normally available for the public to approach, and attach the rope and pictures. All the participants then expect to be arrested. What a bold and yet non-destructive civil disobedience, watch for it on the news? In the mean time we hope you enjoy these pictures and video footage. Both Josh and Mary will be putting together video documentaries about Saturdays events. Please click on a picture to see it full size, then use your back button to come back here.
